A Journey to the Land of the Long White Cloud
Experience New Zealand through a cultural exchange that combines school life, family connections, language learning, and outdoor adventure. Participants will live with a volunteer host family across New Zealand’s North or South Island and attend a local high school, known as a “college.” They will experience everyday Kiwi life while discovering the country’s unique Māori and European cultural influences.
Program Highlights
- Experience Kiwi life: Live with a local host family and become part of your new whānau (family).
- Bi-cultural learning: Explore New Zealand’s Māori and European cultures and develop language skills.
- Study locally: Attend a local high school for a minimum of 7 weeks and experience learning both inside and outside the classroom.
- Outdoor education: Take advantage of New Zealand’s mountains, rivers, lakes, and coastlines through outdoor activities and challenges.
- Explore the South Island: During the July winter holidays, you may have the option to join an additional South Island tour at an extra cost.
Accommodation
You will live with an AFS volunteer host family, giving you the opportunity to experience authentic New Zealand family and community life while building meaningful, lasting relationships.
