Weltwärts is all about engagement in development issues, global learning and interacting as equals. It brings people together in and from Germany, Asia, Africa, Latin America, Oceania and Eastern Europe. The program focuses on non-formal learning on a mutual basis and strengthening of international partnerships.

Eligibility Requirements

  • German Language  (at least A2 level ) is a MUST
  • Have completed secondary school, vocational training, hold a higher education degree, or are otherwise personally suitable.
  • Are between 18 and 27 years of age upon arrival. Participants must turn 18 before the start of the program.
  • Participants have a strong interest in volunteering in the social sector.
  • Currently living outside of Germany
  •  Will move to Germany in order to participate in a volunteer service.
  • Participants have not previously participated in a Bundesfreiwilligendienst.

If a volunteer has already participated in any state-regulated German voluntary services (e.g. BFD, FSJ, FÖJ) under the Youth Volunteer Service Act (Bundesfreiwilligendienstegesetz), the applicant cannot be accepted into the program due to legal regulations.
