Study, Connect, and Experience Italian Life with Intercultura
Embark on a transformative 10-month study abroad experience with AFS, and discover the richness of Italian culture, education, and everyday life. From the northern regions to the southern coast and the beautiful islands of Sicily and Sardinia, participants will have the opportunity to experience Italy from a local perspective. By attending a local school, living with a host family, and becoming part of a welcoming community, students will develop new skills, build lasting friendships, and gain a deeper understanding of Italian culture. With a strong volunteer network, dedicated support throughout the year, and host family placements generally identified before the program begins, Intercultura is committed to providing a safe, enriching, and well-supported exchange experience.
Program Highlights
- Experience Italy from north to south: Discover the country’s diverse cultures, traditions, landscapes, and local communities.
- Study in an Italian school: Attend a local school and benefit from a study program adapted, where possible, to your educational background and specific requirements.
- Improve your Italian: Take part in a language course of at least 40 hours upon arrival and continue developing your language skills throughout the program.
- Explore language certification: Participants may have the opportunity to obtain an internationally recognized Italian language certification at the end of their exchange.
- Join a strong volunteer community: Receive guidance and support from trained volunteers throughout your stay.
- Participate in national contests: Showcase your creativity and experiences through photography, writing, and other national competitions.
School and Educational Experience
AFS collaborates with Italian schools to identify the most suitable study program for you. Depending on the your’s educational background and specific requirements, this may include a personalized school schedule.
You will attend school regularly, experience the Italian education system, and engage with local classmates, offering you a chance to learn both inside and outside the classroom.
Language Support
Upon arrival in Italy, you will receive at least 40 hours of Italian language instruction to help you adapt to your new environment. You will continue developing your language skills through daily interactions at school, with your host family, and within the local community.
Additional Information
Graduates are accepted but will be obligated to attend school in accordance to the program rules and guidelines.
